Planning the release of wildcats in 2023
In February, the Saving Wildcats team hosted a workshop to discuss how we should release wildcats in 2023. Experts from around the world shared their incredible experience of breeding a variety of species for release, and it was fantastic to hear about their work with conservation projects across the globe.
During the workshop we covered several technical aspects of the planned release such as the best times of year to release wildcats, the sex ratio of the cats that will be released and whether the cats should be released as individuals or as part of a group.
It is important that all wildcat releases are evidence based, and lean on experience, scientific knowledge and understanding. We are incredibly grateful to have such a wide variety of experts to support us in our endeavours.
